Children and seniors should have annual eye exams, as should people with diabetes or another medical condition that has significant potential to impact your eyes.
Leveraging powerful cameras and testing techniques – such as OCT Imaging and Digital Retinal Photography – we are able to gain insight into your eye health in ways that were not possible just 10 years ago.
Our exams are not invasive and do not cause any pain. They are detailed, accurate, and give us the ability to ensure that your eye health is the best it can be.
Most Vision Loss is Not Reversible- Early Detection & Treatment is Key
Preventative eye care takes only an hour or two per year and is your best way to ensure great long-term eyesight. Did you know that:
Almost all medical benefits programs extend coverage for eye exams and preventative eye care. We encourage you to utilize these benefits and come see us for an eye exam once per year.
Your eyes are unique in that they often will not show obvious signs something is wrong until it is too late. Considering the role they play in our quality of life, we believe that everyone should take care to protect them. Eye diseases like Glaucoma typically develop without obvious symptoms. Left unchecked, you may find your field of vision significantly reduced before you realize something is going on. By then, it is almost always too late.
During your eye exam we will:
All adults over age 65 should receive annual eye exams.
Like any machine, as we age certain things begin to break down. In the case of our eyes, the likelihood of developing a potentially serious eye condition increases notably.
With early detection and treatment, we can prevent vision loss, slow the development of certain eye diseases, and provide corrective options to restore visual fidelity.
Annual eye exams can help ensure that you have many more years of driving, reading, and generally good visual health.
The importance of your eye health cannot be understated- that’s why OHIP provides annual eye exam coverage for senior citizens who are aged 65 and older. If you are unsure of what that means for you we invite you to ask- we would be happy to answer your questions.
We recommend getting digital photography and OCT testing done to monitor changes to your eye health over time.

Unfortunately, most vision loss that occurs as a result of Glaucoma or AMD is irreversible due to the physical damage they cause to the structure of the eye or the optic nerve. However, when detected early, both Glaucoma and AMD have treatment options that can meaningfully impact the visual attrition they cause.
Frustratingly, eye diseases like Glaucoma often develop through the initial stages without any symptoms- no pain, no headaches… nothing. Far too often we see patients complaining of tunnel vision – a trademark of Glaucoma – because they did not realize the continuous and subtle changes to their vision.
We don’t believe in prescribing solutions without having the right reasons to do so. We place special emphasis on diagnostic testing (via an eye exam) because the importance – and simplicity – of these tests make them a no-brainer. We can’t imagine anything more frustrating than living with preventable vision loss.
At Georgian Bay Optometry Clinic, our mission is to provide our patients with an excellent eye care experience. This means that we take your specific needs into consideration with every conversation, every test, and every diagnosis.
If you have questions about your eye health or suspect that you may be developing an eye disease or condition, we are here to help.

At GBOC we have advanced Imaging equipment called the Cirrus HD-OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography). The OCT not only takes pictures of the eye, it can also take direct cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve thereby screening for eye disease such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and glaucoma. It is a very useful tool for early diagnosis and management of eye disease.
