Important Information About Eye Exams for Kids
Every child should have their first eye exam before they are 18 months old. Otherwise, the Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends annual eye exams for kids under the age of 20. Note that we may recommend more frequent exams if your child has diabetes or some other condition that warrants an increased testing frequency.
Did you know that almost 75% of vision loss can be effectively avoided assuming detection and treatment? Regular eye exams are instrumental in catching impending eye diseases.
By the time they enter school, 25% of kids will have developed some kind of vision impairment. Often these are easily treated, especially if they are caught while still young.
Being a kid is hard; imagine being a kid struggling to properly see. Taking notes, reading classroom materials, and just being a kid is all much more difficult with undiagnosed and untreated eye problems.
